15 May 2025 - Market notice – NTESMO Communications Guideline

Date of notice: 15 May 2025

Northern Territory Electricity System and Market Operator (NTESMO) has published the Communications Guideline under S7A.1.3 of the Northern Territory National Electricity Rules to detail how participants in the Northern Territory electricity market communicate with each other.  The Communications Guideline requires communication to be via the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) MSATS system.

NTESMO has determined, after consultation with market participants, that the commencement date for the use of the AEMO MSATS system in the Northern Territory, as specified in the NTESMO Communications Guideline, will be from 1 July 2025.

NTESMO is required to provide a notice of the end date for the interim market procedures under section 9 of the Communications Guideline. The end date for these interim market procedures will be 30 June 2025.

From 1 July 2025 all communication between market participants in the Northern Territory will be via MSATS in accordance with the published NTESMO procedures.  The only exception will be in instances when participants business continuity plans have been activated due to issues with the MSATS system.

NTESMO is managing the cutover process for participants to communicate via the MSATS system. If during the process the decision is made not to go live with MSATS from 1 July 2025 then NTESMO will, at its discretion issue a further market notice reinstating the interim market procedures for a nominated period of time.
